The undefeated Montana Western Bulldogs won a tightly contested back and forth game against the Fighting Saints of Carroll College. The Bulldogs played great team defense all game and lead by one after the first quarter, and trailed by two at halftime 36-34. The Bulldogs came out of the break and continued to shut down the Saints taking a five-point lead into the final frame. The Saints battled back and after a very questionable double-dribble call on Aniese Palmore (Santa Monica, Calif.) let the Saints cut the lead to just one-point with 37-ticks on the clock. Taylor Howlett (Spokane, Wash.) hit one of two free throws to bump the lead up of to two with 36 seconds left in the contest. The Saints Baylee Watson, who was 0-3 from downtown on the night, hit a three-point shot to give the Saints their first lead since early in the third quarter. The Bulldogs elected not to take their final timeout and Palmore found Bignell who took a couple dribbles before hitting a step back 17-foot jumper giving the Bulldogs the lead with 6.3 seconds left. The last ditch desperation shot bounced off the side of the backboard giving the Bulldogs the hard fought victory.
Palmore led the team in scoring with 20 points and six rebounds, Britt Cooper (Harrison, Mont.) added 11 points and continued her dominance on the glass pulling down eight rebounds, her 27th in the last two games. Bignell scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter and also pulled down eight rebounds.
The Bulldogs are off until Dec. 29 and 30 when they travel to Billings to take on Dickinson State and The University of Calgary. Both games are set to tipoff at 1:30 P.M.Â
