Dillon, Mont. – The No.22 Montana Western Bulldogs (18-4, 7-4) used a big second quarter to blow out the Great Falls Argos (12-10, 1-10) 74-54 Thursday night at Straugh Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs and Argos were locked in a back and affair in the first quarter, with the Argos holding a slight edge 20-18 after the first ten minutes. Then the Bulldogs tightened the clamps down defensively, holding the Argos without a field goal in the second quarter. The bulldogs took a 14 point lead into the break, building that lead as much as 25, coasting to an 20 point win.
The Bulldogs as a team shot 43 percent from the field and 33 percent from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs only shot 42 percent from the free throw line, but a stingy defense and great shooting from the field canceled out their inconsistency from the charity stripe.
The large lead allowed the Bulldogs to rest their starters as the bench got significant playing time.
Kaye Bignell (Avon, Mont.) led the team with 19 points and five rebounds.
Cierra Lamey (Wise River, Mont.) scored 13, had three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Britt Cooper (Harrison, Mont.) grabbed 10 rebounds.
