Bulldog Women to host Skylights and No.20 Argos

Third ranked Bulldogs close out homestand against another ranked opponent

The third ranked University of Montana Western Bulldogs women's basketball team will close out a four-game home stand against MSU-Northern and No. 20 University of Providence this weekend at the Straugh Gymnasium. The Bulldogs will face their fourth ranked opponent in their last six games on Saturday versus the Argos. This weekend marks the second time the teams have face each other, with the Bulldogs defeating the Skylights and falling to the Argos two weeks ago. 

The Bulldogs So Far
  • The Bulldogs are 14-1 overall and 4-1 in Frontier Conference play. 
  • The Bulldogs are ranked third in the nation. It ties the highest they have ever been ranked, with the last time being Feb. 2002 
  • The Bulldogs swept two games last weekend, defeating No. 22 Rocky Mountain College 73-63, and No. 8 Carroll 58-54. 
  • The Bulldogs are leading the nation holding opponents to 46.8 points a game. 
  • Brianna King scored 29 and 12 points and was named Frontier Conference Player of the Week. She won the award for the  straight week and fifth time this season.

  • Brianna King is leading the conference with 21.3 points a game, and steals (39). She also leads the team in assists with 56. 
  • King has scored 20 or more points in 10 of the 14 games this season. 
  • King scored her 1000th career point last week in just her 50th career game. 
  • Britt Cooper is 109 points away from 1000 career points. 
  • Cierra Lamey is averaging 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. She is shooting 87.2 percent from the free-throw line. 
  • The Bulldogs have three players shooting 40 percent of better from long-range: Savanna Bignell(48.8), Cierra Lamey(46.8), and Shannon Worster(48.4).

Scouting the Opponents
  • The Montana State University-Northern Skylights are 9-9 overall and 1-5 in Frontier play. 
  • The Skylights pass the ball well , and are a very good free-throw shooting team. They are led by Peyton Kehr's 12.4 points a game
  • The No. 20 University of Providence Argos are 13-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference. 
  • The Argos rebound the ball really well, sitting eighth in the country with a plus 10.4 rebound margin. Parker Esary averages nearly to rebounds a game. 
  • Emilee Maldonado leads the team in scoring (15.6), assists (5.7) and steals(1.4).
