Dillon, Mont. - The fourth-ranked University of Montana Western Bulldog women's basketball team enters the 39th Annual Division I Women's Basketball National Championship, presented by Wells Fargo as a No. 1 seed and will face No. 8 seed Georgetown (Ky.) on Wednesday, March 13 at 8 p.m.
"This is an exciting time of year for our program and our student-athletes," head coach
Lindsay Woolley said. "It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to get to this point and our goal is to play loose and free for 40 minutes at a time. Our players are fully aware that if we don't approach each game with a sense of urgency that our journey will be over. I can't wait to get to Billings and enjoy this atmosphere with our players while watching them perform."
Montana Western will face Georgetown at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs (25-4, 15-3) won the regular season Frontier Conference title before falling in the conference playoff championship. The Bulldogs are coming off their best season in over 15 years and will advance to the tournament for the 11th time. The Bulldogs are led by Frontier Conference Player of the Year
Brianna King's 22.2 points a game. The Bulldogs have the nations fourth best scoring defense, holding opponents to 51.4 points a game.
Georgetown College (21-10) finished sixth in the Mid-South Conference and received an at-large bid. The Tigers are making their first tournament appearance since 2014 and are 9-10 all time. The Tigers are lead by Hailey Ison's 10.9 points a game. Georgetown is 13th in the nation in scoring, averaging 75.8 points a game.
This is the first time the two schools have met.
Montana Western was one of five Frontier Conference teams that made up the tournament field. Carroll College earned a No. 2-seed, Rocky Mountain College No. 5-seed, Lewis-Clark State College No. 6-seed, and University of Providence No. 8-seed.
