HAVRE, Mont. - The Montana Western Bulldogs (6-3, 5-3) dominated MSU-Northern (1-8, 1-7) 63-7 in a snow Tilleman Field, limiting the Lights to just 20 total yards.
The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on six of their seven first half drives and the defense didn't allow the Lights to cross midfield until the 8:52 mark of the fourth quarter.
Jon Jund completed 19 of 23 passes for 275 yards and five touchdowns and
Nate Simkins caught eight passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns.
The Bulldogs held the Lights to just five first downs and negative two yards rushing, routinely giving the offense a short field. The offense quickly took advantage of the great field position.With only two of the Bulldogs nine scoring drives taking more than five plays to score.
The win keeps the Bulldogs in second place in the Frontier Conference, sitting just a game behind of College of Idaho and Rocky Mountain College.
The Bulldogs return home to host rival Montana Tech on Nov. 6 Kick-off from Vigilante Field is set for 1 p.m.
NOTES:
- The 63 points is the most Montana Western has scored against the Lights.
- 56 points was UMW's largest margin of victory over the Lights.
- Nates Simkin's three touchdown catches tied a school record for touchdown receptions in a game. The fifth time he has accomplished the feat.
- Peyton Broenneke threw his first touchdown pass of his career.
- Isaiah Thomas and Matt Jorgensen scored their first career touchdowns
- Running backs DJ Kirven and Derek Loring had their first career rushing attempts.
