This Week in Bulldog Athletics

DILLON, Mont. – UMW athletics has a busy week ahead of them with two teams on the road and a home football senior night on Saturday. The UMW Men's Basketball team will be opening up their season this week with a trip to California.
 
VOLLEYBALL
The UMW Volleyball team will be on a two-day road trip this weekend as they will take on the University of Providence and MSU-Northern.  The Bulldogs are currently 9-13 overall with a 1-5 record in conference play. The Bulldogs are looking to snap a 4-game losing streak this weekend. The University of Providence is currently 7-17 overall with an 0-6 record in league. The last time the two teams faced, the Bulldogs won 3-1 at home on homecoming weekend. MSU-Northern is 11-8 overall with a 3-3 conference record. The last time the two teams saw each other was on Oct. 1 and the Skylights defeated the Bulldogs 3-0.

FOOTBALL
The Bulldog football team (4-4, 3-4) hosts the MSU-Northern Lights (0-7, 0-7) this weekend at home for senior night on Saturday at 1 PM MST. The Bulldogs come into the matchup after a big win over the previously undefeated and No. 7 ranked College of Idaho. The Bulldogs put up huge numbers on offense as they totaled 558 total yards. The Lights come into the matchup after falling last week to Eastern Oregon University by a score of 37-0. The two teams previously faced each other on Sept. 17 where the Bulldogs won 35-6 in Havre, Mont. A win would give the Bulldogs their 14th straight win over the Lights.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The University of Montana Western men's basketball team is on their way to starting the 2022-23 season this week after a third-place finish in Frontier conference play last season. The Bulldogs will start their season with a road stand in California where they will face Cal-Maritime and Menlo College. After going 18-12 on their regular season, the Bulldogs lost in the semifinals of the Frontier Conference tournament to Montana Tech by only two points. The Bulldogs will first see Cal-Maritime, a team they have not faced in program history. The Keelhaulers come off of a season where they went 13-10 overall and lost to the University of Saint Katherine in the Cal-Pac Conference Finals. The Bulldogs will then face off with Menlo College on Sunday afternoon, their second time in program history. Last season, the Oaks went 16-12 overall and fell to No. 13 ranked William Jessup University in the GSAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
