"So You Want To Be A Coach" – Jordan Sweeney
Senior women's basketball player
Jordan Sweeney joined the Bulldogs last season and has since proven to be a force within the Frontier Conference. The all-conference and All-American guard previously spent three seasons at Idaho State University prior to becoming a Bulldog last season. Within her time playing for the Red and Black, Sweeney has earned numerous accolades on the court and has established herself as a key component to the Bulldog women's basketball program.
Beyond her successes on the court, Sweeney has shown her ability to be a leader on and off the court. From serving as a personal basketball trainer for youth boys and girls in three different states to working numerous basketball camps for young girls and coaching for the travel Cal Stars basketball program in Walnut Creek, Calif.
Sweeney has now set her sights on what her future plans are following the completion of her final season with the Bulldogs. Her first stop, the WBCA's "So You Want To Be A Coach" program. Sweeney has recently been accepted into the once in a lifetime program that will give her the opportunity to learn from the best as a part of the WBCA annual convention that will be held in Cleveland, Ohio — Wednesday, April 39, through Friday, April 5, 2024.
"Jordan is a born leader and has been an amazing floor general for us the last two years," head women's basketball coach Britt Copper said. "Her IQ for the game and ability to relate to each person will be a couple of her strength as she ventures into coaching. I am extremely proud of her for taking on the 'So You Want to be a Coach' opportunity. Jordan is going to make an amazing coach one day and this is just the start for her."
The objectives of the "So You Want to Be A Coach" program are to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball. It is also to increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators and to raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion for and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.
"I am really grateful for the opportunity to attend this event. I would also like to thank coach Cooper for pushing me to fill out an application for it," Sweeney commented. "I am excited to learn from some of the best and also have the opportunity to do some networking. It will be an exciting and extremely educational opportunity for myself!"
