Bulldog Women Stumble Against No. 10 Warriors

LEWISTON, Idaho — In the first of two top-25 matchups on the weekend for the Montana Western women's basketball team, the Bulldogs (3-1) fell to the No. 10 ranked Lewis-Clark State Warriors (2-0) by a score of 78-63.
 
The Bulldogs were led by Shainy Mack who hit six threes on her way to 19 points, four steals, and four rebounds.

How It Happened
The Warriors took the jump early on the Bulldogs, taking a 17-12 lead into the second quarter and running up the score to 27-13 with six minutes to play in the half.
 
Jordan Sweeney knocked down a three pointer and followed up with a jumper to spark a Bulldog run. Mack and Payton Hagy drilled threes to put UMW back on the map and cut the Warrior lead to eight with two minutes left until half.
 
LC state would cap the scoring for the half and ride a nine-point lead at 33-24 into the half.
 
With 5:20 left in the third, Keke Davis took advantage of a trip to the charity stripe and knocked down a pair of free throws. Mack followed with a steal that led to a three-pointer to give UMW their closest margin of the game at three points.
 
The Warriors rattled off 28 points in the final ten minutes as LC's Callie Stevens stunned with 17 points in the quarter alone to lead the Warriors over the Bulldogs 78-63.

Notables
  • The Bulldogs shot 33.9 percent from the field as a team and 35.3 percent from the field.
  • The Bulldogs were riddled with turnovers, posting a season high of 19 in the game.
  • Mack hit a career mark in the game as she made six three-pointers in the game, a mark that tops her previous high of five in a game that she hit against Philander Smith (Ark.) last season in the NAIA First Round game.
  • Sweeney had 14 points in the game with seven rebounds and four assists.
  • Davis as nine points and five rebounds.
