Bulldog Women Fall Short at No. 16 Argos

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball team (9-7, 1-2) fell to the No. 16 ranked University of Providence (10-5, 2-1) this afternoon by a final score of 68-59.

Jordan Sweeney led all scorers with 27 points in the contest, racking up 21 points in the second half alone.

How It Happened
Shainy Mack and Joelnell Momberg combined for 14 points in the first quarter as the Bulldogs stayed close with the Argos, knotted up at 19 all following the first frame.

Argos' Maddy Dixon and Keanna Salave'a combined for a pair of buckets to get the Argos out to a four-point lead over the Bulldogs within a minute in the second quarter.

Trailing four, Sweeney put up her sixth point of the game with a successful layup attempt, cutting the UP lead back to two. Keke Davis sunk a pair of free throws and Mack added a triple to give the Bulldogs a one-point lead.

With the score at 32-30 after the half, Argos' forward Salave'a continued to work in the paint and racked up six quick points to give the Argos their largest lead of the game.

With 4:52 remaining in the quarter, Momberg hit a jumper to break the UP run and cut the deficit back to four points at 40-36.

Sweeney hit a three-pointer with 3:43 on the clock and added seven straight points to the board to get UMW back within one. UP added a bucket just seconds prior to the end of the third to take a 49-46 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The Argos utilized a 9-4 scoring run at the start of the fourth to take a nine-point advantage into the final three minutes of the game. Despite a late push behind five points from Sweeney, the Bulldogs would fall 68-59 to the Argos.
