Bulldog Women Get Back on Track With Win Over Northwest University

BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball team (2-3) got back on track this evening after defeated the Northwest University Eagles 77-71.

The Bulldog women forced 21 turnovers in the game while also picking up 16 points on fast break opportunities.

How It Happened
Northwest took the first lead in the matchup, pushing out to a 12-9 lead. The Bulldogs wasted little time in answering, picking up triples from Isabella Lund, Ava Bellach, and Kylee Old Elk on their way to a 15-4 scoring run that put Western up 24-16 at the end of the first quarter.

The game of runs continued, this time with Northwest's Ellie De Waard hitting back-to-back threes on the way to a 9-2 run for the Eagles to close the gap back within one in the first minute of the second quarter.

Western finished up the half on a 12-5 run to take a 38-30 lead into the break. The Bulldogs shot 48.4 percent across the first half and going 5-12 from the three-point line.

Kenzi Pedersen connected on consecutive attempts to put UMW up nine at 53-44 with under three minutes to play in the third. They would continue on to take a 61-49 lead into the fourth after outscoring the Eagles 23-19 in the quarter.

Northwest continued to cash in from the three-point line, knocking down three from the arc in the first five minutes of the fourth to close the gap to 68-62 with Western clinging to the lead.
UMW's Pedersen and Keke Davis combined for four-points with under three to play and the Bulldogs would ride on to close the game up 77-71.

Notables
  • Western combined to shoot for 44.6 percent in the game from the field while also forcing the Eagles to 21 turnovers in the game.
  • Pedersen led the Bulldogs with 20 points in the matchup. She also added six rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Davis came off the bench to add 15 points and a team high of eight rebounds and five steals.
  • Payton Hagy added 12 points and five assists in the win.
