Bulldog Women Beat Tech

University of Montana Western Press Release

DILLON, Mont. The Montana Western women's basketball team (7-9) upset (RV) Montana Tech (11-6) this evening, 72-68.

"After a slow start, we persevered and had a great second half," said Head Coach Britt Cooper. "The fight this team has is uncontainable."

Leading the Bulldogs was Kenzi Pedersen, who tied her career high with 20 points.

How it Happened

The Bulldogs came out strong, with Pedersen scoring 10 of her 20 points and Trinidie Nichols knocking down two corner three-pointers to give Montana Western a 21-20 lead.

Montana Tech responded in the second quarter with a 10-3 run following an opening three-point basket by Ava Bellach. However, baskets from Pedersen and Sami Love helped UMW trim the deficit to 34-42 heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs found themselves down by as much as seven before a pair of three-pointers from Hagy and a free throw cut Tech's lead to 54-52.

Early in the fourth quarter, Keke Davis was fouled on a layup and converted the and-one, putting UMW ahead 58-56.

After a Tech basket tied the game, the Bulldogs answered with six straight points to retake the lead. In the final two minutes, their defense came up with several key stops, and clutch free throws secured the hard-fought victory.
