DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball team (7-9) upset (RV) Montana Tech (11-6) this evening, 72-68.
"After a slow start, we persevered and had a great second half," said Head Coach
Britt Cooper. "The fight this team has is uncontainable."
Leading the Bulldogs was
Kenzi Pedersen, who tied her career high with 20 points.
How it Happened
The Bulldogs came out strong, with Pedersen scoring 10 of her 20 points and
Trinidie Nichols knocking down two corner three-pointers to give Montana Western a 21-20 lead.
Montana Tech responded in the second quarter with a 10-3 run following an opening three-point basket by
Ava Bellach. However, baskets from Pedersen and Sami Love helped UMW trim the deficit to 34-42 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs found themselves down by as much as seven before a pair of three-pointers from Hagy and a free throw cut Tech's lead to 54-52.
Early in the fourth quarter,
Keke Davis was fouled on a layup and converted the and-one, putting UMW ahead 58-56.
After a Tech basket tied the game, the Bulldogs answered with six straight points to retake the lead. In the final two minutes, their defense came up with several key stops, and clutch free throws secured the hard-fought victory.
Notables
- Hagy finished with 18 points, shooting 5-for-9 from beyond the arc, and added four assists.
- Nichols scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds.
- Maddy Moy contributed six points and five rebounds.
- Montana Tech out rebounded the Bulldogs 43-27.
