HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball team (7-11) fell to No. 22 Carroll College (13-6) this evening, losing 63-48.
Trinidie Nichols led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs, led by their defense, forced seven Carroll turnovers and held the Saints to just 4-of-14 shooting from the field in the first quarter. A three-pointer by Nichols gave UMW a 12-11 lead at the end of the opening period.
Back-to-back baskets by Nichols extended UMW's lead to six points (21-15) with three minutes to play in the second quarter. Carroll responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead, but two free throws from
Ava Bellach allowed the Bulldogs to reclaim a one-point advantage at halftime.
The third quarter saw a competitive back-and-forth battle, with UMW tying the game four times. However, Carroll's three-point shooting helped the Saints pull ahead to a 39-36 lead heading into the final quarter.
Carroll then seized control in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 24-12. The Saints picked it up offensively, shooting a perfect 10-of-10 from the field in the period to secure the victory.
