UMW Football Trounces Eastern Oregon 56-14 Saturday

DILLON, Mont. – The #20 Montana Western football team (6-3, 3-2 FC West) defeated Eastern Oregon 56-14 Saturday in Bulldog Stadium.
 
"We clicked in all three phases of the game today," head coach Ryan Nourse said. "The guys played confident and physical. Defense dominated the line of scrimmage again this week and offensively we ran the game plan very well and connected on the vertical pass game that we knew we would have to in order to set up scoring opportunities."
 
Western tallied 508 yards of total offense (377 passing, 131 rushing), scored eight touchdowns, and earned 21 first downs in the contest. They scored on all seven red zone chances and converted on nine third down tries.


Michael Palandri racked up 418 total yards and five touchdowns. He threw for 352 yards and two scores while adding a team-best 66 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns.
 
Aidan Lammers recorded 44 yards and two TDs while Jakob Humphrey posted 26 yards and ran in another score. Humphrey also caught a two-yard touchdown pass.
 
Jonathan Kirkley led Western with 142 yards on five catches, followed by Eli Nourse at 83 yards and one touchdown.
 
Seth Shook earned 71 yards, Colton Cornwell had 23, and Mason Rasmussen posted 22.
 
Tyler Walker and Manuel Variz IV shared the team lead with six total tackles apiece. Walker led the game in tackles-for-lost (2.0).
 
Variz IV, Reece Stanish, Tyler Schoen, Keegan Muffich, and Connor Dunlea each tallied 1.0 TFL in the game. Stanish, Schoen, and Variz IV also earned 1.0 sacks apiece.
 
Muffich paced the team with four solo tackles while Dunlea forced the lone fumble of the game.
 
Maclain Burckley was a perfect 8-of-8 on PATs in the game. He also averaged 44.0 yards per punt (long of 61) and 66.4 yards per kickoff.
 
Edward Deward averaged 55.5 yards per kickoff over two attempts
Western held got after it early and often in the game, putting up 21 points in the first quarter.
 
The Bulldogs stretched the lead to 35 by the half time whistle with another 14 points.
 
The third frame continued in the same manner, with another 21 on the board for UMW while holding EOU scoreless.
 
The Mountaineers gained some momentum in the fourth, capitalizing on a fumble recovery in the end zone and adding a 53 yard scoring drive to tally 14 points.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs are back at home Nov. 8 when they welcome Arizona Christian for the final game of the 2025 regular season. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. MT.
