UMW Women’s Basketball Takes On #25 Montana Tech Friday

DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball program (4-2, 2-0 FC) travels to Butte, Mont., Friday to take on rival and 25-ranked Montana Tech (5-1, 1-1 FC).

 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT… 
UMW improved to 4-2 on the year and 2-0 in Frontier play with wins over Valley City State (66-62) and Mayville State (81-60).
 
Against the Vikings, the Bulldogs shot 38.6 percent (22-57) from the field, 31.6 percent (6-19) from three-point range, and 80.0 percent (16-20) from the foul line. They tallied 37 rebounds, 11 assists, four steals, and one block. Bailee Sayler paced the team with 22 points and swatted the lone block of the game for Western. Kyle Pancost grabbed a team-best eight rebounds and Isabella Lund dished out four assists. Lund, Gio Horner, Brooke Deyak, and Keke Davis each snagged one steal.
 
Against the Comets, UMW shot 44.8 percent (26-58) from the floor, 33.3 percent (11-33) from beyond the arc, and 78.3 percent (18-23) from the charity stripe. The team registered 30 rebounds, 22 assists, 18 steals, and four blocks. Horner led the team with 18 points while Davis topped the team with six rebounds. Lund and Maile Wilcox recorded five assists apiece. Sayler swatted a game-best three blocks. Wilcox, Lund, Davis, and Sayler earned three steals each.
 
 THE PACK PERSPECTIVE 
The Bulldogs are averaging 70.3 points, 36.3 rebounds, and 14.5 assists per game through six games. They are shooting 44.3 percent from the floor, 39.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 68.3 percent from the foul line. Additionally, UMW has earned 7.2 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
 
Two Bulldogs are putting up double figures in scoring; Bailee Sayler (12.5), and Isabella Lund (11.5). Kyle Pancost pulls down a team-best 7.2 rebounds per game while Lund dishes out a team-high 4.0 assists. Lund also tops the team in steals (1.5) while Sayler swats 1.3 blocks per game. Sayler paces the team in field-goal percentage (52.8) and Sammi Love leads in three-point percentage (61.5). Lund is hitting a team-best 77.8 percent from the charity stripe.
 
 FRESH FACES 
In addition to the seven new players, Western women's basketball also has a new coaching staff. First-year head Coach Ryan Sullivan takes the helm after an accomplished stint at Sheridan High School in Sheridan, Wyoming. Sullivan brought Wes Knox on board to serve as assistant coach.
 
 BULLDOGS IN THE RANKINGS 
As a team, Western is sixth in the nation in three-point percentage (39.). Individually, Sammi Love is ninth in the nation in three-point percentage (61.5) and Bailee Sayler is 18th in the same category (41.7).
 
 SHARP SHOOTERS 
The Bulldogs are second in the FC in three-point percentage (39.2) and third in field-goal percentage (44.3). They also sit fourth in points per game (70.3)
 
 FROM DOWNTOWN 
Western has made six or more threes in every contest this season, including 10 or more on two occasions.
 
 HELPING HANDS 
UMW has reached double-figures in assists in each game this season, including a season-best 22 in the win over Mayville State. The Bulldogs rank fourth in the Frontier in assists.
 
 911? THERE'S BEEN A ROBBERY 
Western earned a whopping 18 steals against Mayville State, marking it's highest single-game tally of the season by a wide margin. Moreover, the team has recorded at least five steals in all but one contest this season.
 
 SAYLER FOR THREEEEE
Bailee Sayler is sitting second in the FC in three-point percentage (56.0) and fourth in made three pointers (14). She has drained five or more threes in a single game in two games this season.
 
 GO OFF GIO 
Gio Horner put up a game-high 18 points on 50.0 percent shooting against Mayville State. She knocked down five three pointers in the contest.
 
 HOW MAY SHE ASSIST YOU? 
Isabella Lund is tied for second in the Frontier in assists per game (4.0). She has recorded three or more assists in all but one game this season.
 
 CRASHING THE BOARDS 
Kyle Pancost is seventh in the league in rebounds per game (7.2) and has recorded five or more rebounds in every game thus far.
 
 AUTOMATIC LIKE A FREE THROW 
Isabella Lund ranks seventh in the FC in free-throw percentage, draining 77.8 percent from the line this season.
 
 THE OPPONENTS 
Montana Tech (5-1, 1-1 FC)
  • The Orediggers are averaging 72.2 points, 47.7 rebounds, 13.0 assists, 9.0 steals, and 3.3 blocks per game in 2025.
  • As a team, they are shooting 41.7 percent from the floor, 28.4 percent from distance, and 75.8 percent from the line.
  • The Orediggers rank eighth in the NAIA in rebounding margin (14.8), tied for 10th in defensive rebounds per game (32.0), 12th in total rebounds per game (47.7), and 25th in free-throw percentage (75.8)
  • They lead the Frontier in rebounds per game, as well as both defensive and offensive boards per game (15.4). Montana Tech also ranks second in the league in points allowed (53.0) and fifth in points per game. Liv Wangerin at 10.5.

  • Badovinac, Humphreys, and Avery Carlson are earning 1.8 steals apiece while Kylie Konen is swatting a team-best 1.0 blocks per outing.
  • Haber is shooting 60.0 percent from the floor, Kameryn Ketcham is draining 50.0 percent from beyond the arc, and Badovinac has nailed 100.0 percent (19-19) of her free throws this season.
  • Individually, Humphreys sits fifth in rebounding and seventh in assists while Badovinac is seventh in points per game and Konen is 10th in blocks.
 SERIES HISTORY 
The Bulldogs are 105-59 all time against the Orediggers, including 7-3 over the last 10 matches. The last contest between the two sides saw UMW fall 80-67 in Butte on 02/20/25.
 
 LOOKING AHEAD
