DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball program (4-5, 2-3 FC) was upended by #15 Rocky Mountain (5-3, 3-2 FC) 67-54 Saturday evening.
STAT BREAKDOWN
Western shot 29.5 percent (18-61) from the floor, 28.6 percent (6-21) from three, and 92.3 percent (12-13) from the charity stripe in the contest.
The Bulldogs recorded 25 rebounds, 11 assists, nine steals, and one block.
They scored 18 points in the paint, 13 points off turnovers, 10 second-chance points, and 26 points off the bench.
LEADERBOARD
Bailee Sayler led all players with 18 points, followed by
Gio Horner (11). Sayler also paced the team with six rebounds.
Isabella snagged a game high six steals while also leading UMW in assists (four).
Kyle Pancost earned the lone block of the game for the Bulldogs.
NOTABLES
Western posted its highest free-throw percentage of the season.
Sayler scored in double figures for the sixth time this season.
Lund tallied a career high in steals.
GAME SUMMARY
The Bulldogs took a five-point lead early in the first, but the Battlin' Bears pulled back into it, leading 18-14 at the break.
The visitors stretched their lead to as many as eight in the second period, but Western weathered the storm and tied the game at 27 with three minutes remaining in the half. The Bears led by two, 36-4, as the teams headed to the locker rooms
UMW shot 33.3 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from deep, and 100.0 percent (5-5) from the line in the first half.
Rocky Mountain went on a run in the third, outscoring Western 14-6, to take a 10-point lead into the final period.
The Bulldogs were stronger on the offensive end in the fourth, but couldn't quite manage to close the gap, and the game went in favor of RMC.
THE OPPOSITION
Rocky Mountain shot 47.2 percent (25-53) from the floor, 39.1 percent (9-23) from three-point range, and 66.7 percent (8-12) from the foul line. The Bears registered 45 rebounds, 18 assists, two steals, and three blocks. Isabelle Heggem and Tailyn Black led the team with 16 points apiece. Paige Wasson tallied a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Heggem and Wasson each recorded six assists while Heggem also posted three blocks.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs return to action next Tuesday when they take on NCAA DI opponent Weber State in an exhibition match.
