DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball team (7-18) fell to No. 25 University of Providence (17-7) this afternoon, 66-58.
Payton Hagy led the Bulldogs with 16 points.
How It Happened:
In a back-and-forth first quarter featuring four lead changes and four ties, the Argos took a 20-17 lead into the second quarter.
Hagy knocked down three three-pointers, while Maddy Moy grabbed four rebounds and blocked two shots. Providence shot 3-for-4 from behind the arc, edging ahead 35-34 at halftime.
The Argos opened the second half with a 5-0 run to extend their lead, but the Bulldogs responded by getting to the free-throw line 12 times, converting 10 of those attempts to take a 48-47 lead into the fourth quarter.
Moy's basket to start the final period gave Western a three-point advantage, but the Bulldogs struggled from the field, shooting just 3-for-14 and 0-for-2 from beyond the arc. Providence sealed the game at the free-throw line, knocking down 14 of 16 attempts in the quarter.
