Bulldog WBB Clipped by #7 Dakota State 81-62

MADISON, S.D. – The Montana Western women's basketball program (7-10, 5-8 FC) fell to #7 Dakota State (16-3, 11-2 FC) 81-62 Saturday evening.
 
Three-point shooting was a difference maker in the ball game as the Bulldogs made four compared to 11 from the Trojans.
 
STAT BREAKDOWN
UMW shot 36.5 percent (23-63) from the floor, 20.0 percent (4-20) from three, and 80.0 percent (12-15) from the foul line.
 
The Bulldogs tallied 36 rebounds, 18 assists, 11 steals, and two blocks in the contest.
 
Western posted 28 points in the paint, 14 points off turnovers, 12 second-chance points, 10 fast-break points, and 26 bench points.
 
LEADERBOARD
Isabella Lund led all players with 18 points, followed by Keke Davis with 10.
 
Kyle Pancost and Gio Horner each grabbed six rebounds.
 
Lund dished out a game-best seven assists while Tayva Phillips earned a game-high tying three steals.
 
Pancost and Ava Bellach each swatted a block.

Lund matched her career high in assists.
 
Davis shot 83.3 percent (5-6) from the field.
 
Phillips posted her second straight multi-steal game.
 
GAME SUMMARY
The Trojans started the game on a 9-0 run and led by 16, 28-12, at the end of the first quarter. Western forced four turnovers from the hosts in the opening 10 minutes.
 
Dakota State stretched its lead to 22 by the halftime whistle, leading 47-25 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
 
The Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent (9-27) from the field and 70.0 percent (7-10) from the foul line over the first 20 minutes. They tallied 15 rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
 
The Trojans continued to build their lead, up 68-38, at the end of the third period.
 
The final 10 minutes were Western's strongest of the game as the Bulldogs outscored DSU 24-13 in the period. Despite the stronger play on both ends of the floor, they couldn't quite close the gap, and the hosts took the win.
 
THE OPPOSITION
Dakota State shot 49.1 percent (28-57) from the floor, 37.9 percent (11-29) from distance, and 56.0 percent (14-25) from the charity stripe. The Trojans posted 38 rebounds, 21 assists, 11 steals, and two blocks. Bria Wasmund paced the team with 15 points, followed by Tabor Teel (13), Caitlin Dyer (13), and Hamtyn Heinz (11). Teel pulled down a game-best seven rebounds while Wasmund earned a team-high six assists. Dyer snagged a game-high tying three steals. Ella Carstenen and Angelina Chapple both tallied one block in the game.
