DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball program (7-11, 5-9 FC) were clipped by #12 Montana Tech (16-2, 12-2 FC) 71-65 in a tightly contested game Friday evening.
The contest was tied with just under four minutes to go before the Orediggers pulled away late.
STAT BREAKDOWN
UMW shot 41.7 percent (25-60) from the floor. 36.4 percent (8-22) from three, and 77.8 percent (7-9) from the foul line.
Western recorded 34 rebounds, 14 assists, seven steals, and one block in the contest.
The Bulldogs put up 30 points in the paint, 13 points off turnovers, and nine second-chance points.
LEADERBOARD
Isabella Lund led all players with 18 points, followed by
Brooke Deyak with 15.
Keke Davis tied for the game high with 10 boards.
Lund dished out a game-best seven assists.
Davis tallied a game-high three steals and swatted the lone block of the game for the Bulldogs.
NOTABLES
Deyak put up a career-high 15 points.
Isabella Lund posted 18 points and seven assists for the second game in a row.
Davis reached double figures in rebounds for the third time on the year.
GAME SUMMARY
The visitors jumped out to an early lead, 10-4, through the first five minutes of play, and led by four, 15-11 at the break.
The Bulldogs fought their way back to tie it multiple times in the second quarter, but the Orediggers held a slight advantage (32-31) at the half.
UMW shot 37.5 percent (12-32) from the field, 18.1 percent from three, and 83.3 percent (5-6) from the line in the first half.
Western took a three-point lead twice in the third fram, but two consecutive layups from Montana Tech put them back up three, 50-47, going into the final 10 minutes.
Despite fighting back from seven down in the fourth, the Bulldogs couldn't regain the lead and the visitors took the win.
THE OPPOSITION
The Orediggers shot 40.0 (26-65) from the floor, 25.9 percent (7-27) from distance, and 70.7 (12-17) from the foul line. They registered 41 rebounds, 15 assists, seven steals, and four blocks. Halle Haber put up a team-best 17 points and 10 rebounds. Liv Wangerin and Avery Carlson each handed out three assists. Brooke Badovinac earned a team-best two steals while she and Wangerin each tallied a block.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs head back on the road next week when they travel to Rocky Mountain (1/30) and Carroll (1/31).
