UMW Football Falls to #1 College of Idaho 52-7 Saturday Afternoon

DILLON, Mont. – Montana Western football (2-5, 0-3 FC West) fell to #1 College of Idaho (6-0, 2-0 FC West) 52-7 Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.
 
STAT BREAKDOWN
The Bulldogs registered 173 yards of total offense (117 passing, 56 rushing) and scored one touchdown in the contest.
 
Sam Wulff and Rashard Boone shared quarterback duties for Western. Wulff posted 68 yards on eight completions with a long of 32 and Boone tallied 49 yards on three completions with a long of 31.
 
Santana Luna ran for a 77-yard touchdown for UMW and finished with 85 yards on five attempts to lead the team on the ground.
 
Eli Nourse led the Bulldog receiving efforts with 85 yards on five receptions.
 
The Western defense registered a season-high 83 tackles, including a season-best 43 solo takedowns. The Bulldogs also registered 4.0 tackles-for-loss, one forced fumble and fumble recovery, four pass breakups and one QB hurry.
 
Aedan Baker led the game in both total tackles (12) and solos (seven). He also posted a team-best 1.5 TFLs.
 
Connor Dunlea also registered double-digit tackles with 11.
Canyon Sargent forced a fumble from the Yotes, which was recovered by Manuel Variz IV.
 
GAME SUMMARY
The visitors scored two touchdowns in the opening period to lead 14-0 after 15 minutes of play.
 
Canyon Sargent forced a fumble near the end of the first, but the Bulldogs couldn't find the end zone on the ensuing drive.
 
The Yotes increased their lead to 28-0 by the halftime whistle.
 
College of Idaho put up three more touchdowns in the third frame, bringing the score to 49-0 in favor of the Yotes.
 
Santana Luna got the Bulldogs on the board with a 77-yard touchdown rush to start the final 15 minutes.
 
The Western defense held CI to a field goal in the fourth, and the Yotes took the 52-7 win.
 
COLLEGE OF IDAHO
The Yotes tallied 553 yards of total offense (259 passing, 294 rushing), seven touchdowns, and one field goal in the game.
 
Caden Young threw for 237 yards and one touchdown on 21 completions. Rylie Byington also tossed one TD for CI.
 
Young also rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns while Byington ad Ryken EchoHawk rushed for one touchdown each.
 
Jase Applebee ad Preston Chamberlin both caught touchdown passes for the Yotes.
 
Tanner Steele led the team with four total tackles while Jackson Ames and Thomas Clute both posted one TFL.
 
Josh Horn connected on all seven PATs and the lone field goal attempt for the Yotes.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs are home again next weekend when they welcome Simpson for "Senior Day." Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. MT.
