Eligibility

Athletic Eligibility

The following information will assist you in your initial assessment of eligibility under the affiliations for intercollegiate participation at the University of Montana Western.

As each eligibility situation is unique unto itself, your final eligibility determination shall be assessed only after proper official high school and/or collegiate transcripts and eligibility paperwork has been submitted by the student-athlete and processed by the athletic department, faculty athletic representative, and the institution's registrar.

The material presented within this website is not to be construed as a complete listing of all rules and regulations of the NAIA or Conferences but rather as a guide to assist athletes and institutional representatives in becoming more knowledgeable about athletic eligibility .
It is the student-athlete's responsibility to ascertain and maintain their current eligibility level with the assistance of the athletic department, faculty athletic representative and the registrar's office.

Entering freshman

1. Meet two of three entry requirements:
* An entering freshman must achieve a score of 18 or higher on the Enhanced ACT or a score of 860 or higher, achieved on the Critical Reading and Math sections of the SAT (Residual scores are not acceptable). Scores must be from a single test.
* Achieve a minimum high school grade point average of 2.00 as based on a 4.00 scale.
* Graduate in the top half of your high school class.
2. Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 institutionally approved credit hours at the time of your participation, and maintain those credits throughout the entire semester of your participation. If you drop below 12 credits at any time during the semester, you will be ineligible to compete.
3. You must be in good academic standing with the institution (Business Office, residence halls, Registrar's Office, etc.).

Second Season

1. You must have accumulated at least 24 semester/36 quarter credits (not counting repeats) that can be applied towards your degree. (Any summer term course work of twelve credits or less will be attached to your spring term credit total.)
2. You must have an UMW institutional grade point average of 2.00 or better.
3. You must be enrolled in at least 12 institutionally approved credit hours at the time of your participation, and maintain those credits throughout the entire term of your participation. If you drop below 12 credits at any time during the term, you will be ineligible to compete.
4. You must be in good academic standing with the institution (Business Office, residence halls, Registrar's Office, etc.)
5. You must be making significant progress toward obtaining a degree, as determined by the EOU Registrar.

Third Season

1. You must have completed at least 48 semester/72 quarter credits (not counting repeats), and be making significant progress toward your major and minor fields of study and the general education requirements for your degree.
2. You must have UMW and cumulative grade point averages of 2.00 or better.
3. You must have completed a minimum total of 24 semester/36 quarter credits (not counting repeats) during the previous two semesters or three quarters of attendance. (Any non-term and summer term course work of twelve credits or less will be attached to the spring term total.)
4. You must be in good academic standing with the institution (Business Office, residence halls, Registrar's Office, etc.).
5. You must be within your first ten-semesters/15 quarters of attendance. A term of attendance is based on enrollment in nine or more institutional credits (summers, non-terms excluded).
6. You must be enrolled in at least 12 institutionally approved credit hours at the time of your participation, and maintain those credits throughout the entire semester of your participation. If you drop below 12 credits at any time during the semester, you will be ineligible to compete.

Fourth Season

1. You must have officially declared your major to the Registrar's office, prior to certification of eligibility.
2. You must have accumulated at least 72 semester credits/108 quarter credits (not counting repeats); 48-semester/72 quarter of which must apply towards your general education requirement and/or your major field of Study.
3. You must have UMW and cumulative grade point averages of 2.00 or better.
4. You must have completed a minimum total of 24 semester/36 quarter credits (not counting repeats) during the previous two semesters/three quarters of attendance. (Any non-term and summer term course work of twelve credits or less will be attached to the spring term total.)
5. You must be in good academic standing with the institution (Business Office, residence halls, Registrar's Office, etc.)
6. You must be within your first ten semesters/15 quarters of attendance. A term of attendance is based on enrollment in nine or more institutional credits (summers excluded).
7. You must be enrolled in at least 12 institutionally approved credit hours at the time of your participation, and maintain those credits throughout the entire semester of your participation. If you drop below 12 credits at any time during the semester, you will be ineligible to compete.
