Jed Heffernan will enter his sixth season on the Bulldog coaching staff in 2025.

During his first five seasons as an assistant coach, the Bulldogs have won three conference championships. UMW has made three NAIA Football Championship appearances and has hosted a home playoff game in the FCS three times.

After the 2024 season, Heffernan served his first season as co-offensive coordinator. The season saw the Bulldog offense break the total offense in a season record set in 2021 at 5,399 yards. They totaled 5,773 yards of offense this season and broke the record for passing yards in a season with a previous record set in 1994 at 3,535. They also broke the total points scored record that was set in 2021. They totaled 3,735 passing yards and totaled 498 points this season. In addition to success on offense, Heffernan led offensive lineman Marcus Lombard, a 6-1, 300lb offensive lineman from Laie, Hawaii, to his second All-American honor after another impressive season on the offensive line. He was also previously named Frontier first team all-conference offense. 

A 2019 graduate of Montana Western, Heffernan started all 20 games from 2018-2019 at center for the Bulldogs at and served as team captain his senior year. He earned all-conference honors and academic all-conference honors. Selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team and was named to the National Football Foundations Hampshire Honor Society. 

Prior to Montana Western, Heffernan played at Snow College from 2016-17 where he earned first team all-conference honors as a center.

A Hauula, Hawaii native, Heffernan earned his bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Montana Western in 2019.
