Gary Haverfield will be entering his first season on the Montana Western coaching staff in 2023-2024.
Haverfield brings an extensive background in basketball with over 30 years of coaching experience at a variety of levels. He has found success coaching in both Montana and South Dakota across his career, serving as an assistant coach on multiple boys and girls high school state championship and state qualifying teams at Park High School in South Dakota and at Beaverhead County High School in Dillon, Mont. In addition to his coaching at the high school level, he has coached on a number of AAU basketball teams.
Recently, Haverfield has retired from his role as an administrator at Beaverhead County High School. In his 37 years, Haverfield has served in a number of roles as an educator, activities director, basketball coach, and superintendent.
Following a short stint at Montana State University-Northern, Haverfield competed in both basketball and track and field for UMW in the early 80’s. He was named an all-conference point guard in basketball.
