KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2017-18 Division I Women's Basketball All-America Teams on Thursday.
Brianna King was selected to the First-Team.
Brianna King was selected as First-Team All-American. She is the first Bulldog to receive the honor since Katherine Sunwall in 2007.
King, a 5-5 junior guard from Spokane, Wash., led the Bulldogs to their first ever appearance in the NAIA Fab Four. She was fourth in the nation in scoring (694 points), sixth in the nation in steals with 84, tenth in points per game average (19.28) and eleventh in free throw percentage (81.2 percent). She was named Frontier Conference Player of the Week five times this season, NAIA National Player of the week in January, Frontier Conference Player of the Year, and Frontier Conference Newcomer of the Year. King was also named to the NAIA DI Women's Basketball Championship All-Tournament First-Team.
This season King set the Bulldogs record for points in a game with 37, then broke that record with a 40 point performance in the NAIA quarterfinals. She set the school and NAIA tournament mark for made free-throws in a game with 18. Her 694 points are second most in a season, falling just 15 points short of the all-time mark of 709 held by Bobbi Konen (Suhr) back in 2002.
"This honor is a reflection of the success our team had this season which Bri was a big part of it." said head coach
Lindsay Woolley, "She has worked tirelessly to become the player she is and we are excited that she is part of our program for one more year."
The Bulldogs have had four All-Americans since the 2012-13 season; Sammi Bignell (2012-13),
Aniese Palmore (2015-16 & 2016-17),
Kaye Bignell (2016-17), and
Brianna King (2017-18).
King is just the third Bulldog to being named to the first-team, following Katherine Sunwall (2007), and Bobbi Suhr (2003).
