The purpose of the University of Montana Western Athletics Hall of Fame is to honor, pay tribute and perpetuate the memory of those individuals who, either through participation, support or interest, have made outstanding contributions to UMW athletics and who have helped bring recognition, honor, distinction and excellence to UMW.

The University of Montana Western was founded in 1893 and since then has had over 10,000 student athletes competing in over 10 varsity sports.

The Montana Western Athletic Hall of Fame was started in 1981 and honors the achievements of the college's outstanding individual student-athletes, coaches and supporters who have enhanced and reinforced the University's commitment to athletic excellence.

The new room makes use of unused space in the building, provides an overlook into the Straugh Gymnasium and properly honors and recognizes the individuals who have performed with distinction and/or have been instrumental in the overall development and success of Montana Western Athletics.

Through 38 induction classes, the Montana Western Athletics Hall of Fame features over 450 members – many of whom are members of other Halls of Fame, including the Montana Coaches Association.

Each year, inductees are honored on Hall of Fame weekend surrounding a Montana Western home football game, with an induction brunch the morning of the game and a recognition ceremony at halftime.

Details are still being worked out as to the availability of the Hall of Fame/VIP room for game days and University events, with hopes the Hall of Fame Room will serve as a multipurpose location to hold meetings, HHP classes, and host receptions and gatherings.
