Dillon, Mont. – Montana Western (13-1, 2-1) fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, as Montana Tech (8-7, 2-2) pulled out the surprising victory in front of a packed Straugh Gymnasium 70-65.
The Bulldogs started out strong, maintaining a seven point lead throughout most of the first half, until jumping out to a 13 point lead at the intermission. They stretched that lead to 16 early in the third quarter, until the Bulldogs went cold and Tech started to chip away at the lead.
The wheels slowly started to come off for the Bulldogs as turnovers and missed shots doomed the Bulldogs. They only made three field goals in the third quarter. Montana Tech cut the lead to just two entering the final frame.
Tech took their first lead of the game with 5:56 remaining in the game. The two teams would exchange buckets until the final minutes when Tech put the game away.
AnIese Palmore led the Bulldogs with 19 points,
Taylor Howlett added 14, and
Britt Cooper had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bulldogs return to action on Jan. 7 at the Straugh Gymnasium, as they face off against the number two ranked team in the nation Lewis and Clark State College. Tip-off is set for 3:30 P.M.
