Howlett Sinks Game Winner, Bulldogs Defeat Rocky 67-64

Billings, Mont. – The No.22 Montana Western Bulldogs (20-5, 9-5) completed a 14 point second half comeback, when Taylor Howlett (Spokane, Wash.) banked in a three-point shot with 4 seconds remaining to beat Rocky Mountain College (12-14, 4-10) 67-64 Saturday night at the Fortin Center.
The Bulldogs, who trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half, were able to chip away at the Rocky lead in the fourth quarter, and take their first lead since the first quarter with 33 seconds remaining.  Rocky then made one of two free throws to tie the game at 64 with 25 seconds left setting up Howlett's game winning shot.

After a back and forth first quarter Rocky opened up a lead in the second, holding an eight point lead at halftime.  The Bulldogs weren't able to get any closer, as Rocky stretched their lead to 14 late in the third quarter. Two huge three-pointers from Sierra Bignell (Avon, Mont.) and Cierra Lamey (Wise River, Mont.) in the final 51 seconds gave the Bulldogs life and the comeback was on.

The Bulldogs were able to shut down Rocky in the fourth and hold them to 10 points, outscoring them by 11.

With the win, the Bulldogs moved into second place in the Frontier Conference with four games remaining.

Lamey tied a career high 16 points and hit four three-point shots, to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. She also had six rebounds. Howlett finished with 12 points and three assists. Aniese Palmore (Santa Monica, Calif.) scored 11 points and dished out four assists. Kaye Bignell (Avon, Mont.) added 10 points, and Britt Cooper (Harrison, Mont.) scored eight points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Bulldogs will host Lewis-Clark State College on Feb.16 at 5:30 p.m.
