Havre, Mont. – Late Turnovers doomed the Montana Western Bulldogs (21-7, 10-7) Friday night, as they fell to the MSU-Northern Skylights (21-7, 11-6) 57-53.
The Bulldogs and Skylights battled for most of 40 minutes, but in the end the Skylights escaped with a victory, which secured them a second place finish and a first round bye in the upcoming Frontier Conference Playoffs.
Kaye Bignell (Avon, Mont.) started the game hot, scoring the team's first eight points, and 14 in the first half. But the Sklights were able to shut her down in the second half.
Trailing by 10 in the second quarter the Bulldogs made a comeback taking a lead in the third quarter and tying the game at 51 late in the fourth. However, turnovers and lack of rebounding prevented the Bulldogs from coming away with the win.
Aniese Palmore (Santa Monica, Calif) scored 17 points, Bignell finished with 14. The Bulldogs shot 49 percent from the field, but only made two shots from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs will be the three seed in the Frontier Conference Playoffs and will host a playoff game, the opponent is still to be determined.
The Bulldogs will close out their best regular season in 10 years on Saturday Feb. 25 against Great Falls. Tip-off is set for 5:30 at the McLaughlin Center.
