LA GRANDE, Ore. – Kai Quinn scored a 39-yard rushing touchdown with 4:59 remaining as Eastern Oregon defeated Montana Western 27-24 on Sunday afternoon. The game was played on Sunday due to poor air quality on Saturday afternoon.

Quinn scored three touchdowns, but none were more important than the finale which capped a 15-point rally by the Mountaineers. Quinn rushed 20 times for 189 yards and the three scores and the EOU defense sacked Western quarterback Bennett Gibson four times. The Mountaineers also forced an interception.

Eastern Oregon scored the first points of the game on a Nathan Harden 24-yard field goal, but it was Western that opened an early lead. Gibson found Nate Simkins on a seven-yard score early in the second quarter. Gibson found the end zone on a two-yard run later in the frame to give the Bulldogs a 14-3 lead.

Quinn's first touchdown, a two-yard scamper, brought EOU to within five before the teams swapped field goals before the half. Western led 17-12 after Harden's 36-yard attempt sailed through the uprights as the first half expired.

 (RV) Montana Western (1-2) hosts No. 14 Southern Oregon (2-0) in Dillon. Kickofff is scheduled for 1pm on Sept. 16.
