Bulldog Men Host Northern and Providence

The University of Montana Western Bulldogs Men's basketball team will close out a four-game home stand this weekend. They host Montana State University - Northern on Jan. 17, and No. 22 University of Providence on Jan. 19 in the Straugh Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs So Far
  • The Bulldogs are 7-10 overall and 1-5 in Frontier Conference play. 
  • The Bulldogs fell twice last weekend, 91-68 to Rocky Mountain College and 91-78 to No. 3 Carroll College. 
  • Kooper Kidgell scored a season-high 25 points in the loss to Carroll.
  • The Bulldogs take care of the ball. They are ninth in the nation with a plus 3.94 turnover margin

Who to Watch
  • Senior Kooper Kidgell is averaging a career best 16.2 points a game. 
  • Freshman Carter Kearns saw 20 minutes of playing time off the bench last week against Carroll and scored 16 points. 
  • Sophomore Collin Achenbach has started the last five games, and is averaging 6.2 points and 2.2 assists a game over that stretch. 
Scouting the Opponents
  • MSU-Northern is 11-7 overall and 3-3 in the Frontier. The last time they met the Bulldogs left Havre with a 66-63 win. 
  • The Lights are second in the nation in total assists (380) and 3-point field goal percentage (42.5). They have historically shot the ball very well in the Straugh Gymnasium and are led by Mascio McCadney's 14.8 points a game. 
  • The No. 22 University of Providence Argos are 12-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Argos average 94 points and 11 made 3-point shots a game.  
  • The Argos are lead by Brandon Cotton (19.0) and Jalen Shepherd's (17.4) points a game.

  • Both games will take place in the Straugh Gymnasium in Dillon, Mont. 
  • Jan. 17: MSU-Northern at 7:30 p.m.
  • Jan. 19: University of Providence at 7:30 p.m.
