Billings, Mont. - The Montana Western men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Frontier Conference championship meet. The Women finished second overall and the men finished fourth just a points behind third place.
In the men's 8k race,sophomore
Josh Jessop led the Bulldogs with a 6th place finish with a time of 26:35 earning all-conference honors. In addition,
Matt Wilson also was named all-conference finishing 9th (26:49),
Luke Lutz finished 14th (27:09),
Jack Dolan, running his first race of 2019 finished 32nd (30:52). Redshirt freshman from the men's basketball team Zane Mussmann finished 36th (36:43) and Michael Haverfield finished 38th (38:05) to give the Bulldogs a scoring five.
"I'm really pleased with how everything went today," head coach
Dylan Zitzer said. "We had two program firsts today, with the women's team finishing the highest ever, and five all-conference selections. I'm pretty happy."
The women's team was led by junior
Eireann O'Connor who placed third overall in the 5k race in a time of 18:49. In addition,
Marley May finished 7th (19:32),
Shelby Walls finished 10th (19:37) to earn all-conference honors.
Emma Adams finished 13th (19:54),
Mason Baseley finished 21st (20:28),
Liz Varner finished 29th (21:41),
Megan Tarmichael finished 34th (23:29), and
Morgan Baseley finished 43rd (24:05).
The women's team will wait until Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 12) to find if they qualified for the national championships.
The NAIA National Championship meet is Friday, Nov. 22 in Vancouver, Wash.
