Bulldogs Fall to Northwest in Season Opener

The Basics
Score: Montana Western 1 – (RV) Northwestern University 3  (25-23, 18-25, 18-25, 18-25)
Record: UMW (0-1), NU (1-0)
Location: Straugh Gymnasium - Dillon, Mont. 

The Bulldogs opened the 2019 season with a tough four-set loss to Northwest University. The Bulldogs and Eagles traded punches early in the first set before NU built a 19-13 lead. The Bulldogs responded with a 7-1 run to tie the game at 20 before going onto win 25-23. NU would not let the lead slip away from the margin. In the second set the Eagles built a 11-7 lead and never gave the Bulldogs a chance to come back and steal the game. The Eagles repeated the formula in sets three and four, building an early lead and not allowing the Bulldogs to rally. 

Individual Leaders
Abbee Croninger recorded six kills, six blocks, and had a team high .188 hitting percentage.
Madison Richtmyer had a double-double with 21 assists and 11 digs. 
Jessie Weber had 16 digs and seven kills.
Morgan Stenger had a team-high 10 kills. 
Christina Hegarty led the Eagles with 19 digs.
Courteney Carr  had a game high 29 assists.
Abigail Broussard had a team-high 10 kills.

The Bulldogs will travel to Butte, Mont. to play in the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge. They will play four games over the weekend: Aug. 22 vs. Valley City Sate University 7 p.m.,  Aug. 23 vs Olivet Nazarene 11 a.m., vs. Bethel College 5 p.m., Aug. 24 vs. Evergreen State 9 a.m.
