CALDWELL, Idaho—A strong fourth quarter pushed the Montana Western Bulldogs (4-1) past The College of Idaho Yotes (5-2) in an exciting four-point win, 58-54.
The Bulldogs trailed behind the Yotes for the first three quarters of the game, with the Yotes holding the lead for nearly 26 minutes. A strong rebounding effort and four made 3-point shots edged the Bulldogs ahead of the Yotes with just minutes left in the game.
Lilly Gopher came alive in the fourth, making six of her eight points down in the post.
Shainy Mack and
Sydney Sheridan played 39 minutes and 36 minutes, respectively.
"I am awfully proud of them," coach
Lindsay Woolley said. "We could have quit a number of times, but they kept on fighting. Nat and Lilly made some huge shots in the fourth quarter and we somehow managed to grab just enough rebounds to win."
The Bulldogs had 17 offensive and 18 defensive rebounds, countered by the Yotes' 18 offensive and 18 defensive rebounds.
Shainy Mack scored 18 points, accompanied by four steals, two assists, and six rebounds.
Lilly Gopher led the Bulldogs with seven rebounds.
Lexi Mitchell led the Yotes with a double-double—16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bulldogs play Eastern Oregon on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. in Caldwell, Idaho.
