BUTTE, Mont. - The Montana Western Bulldogs (4-1, 3-1) totaled nearly 600 yards of offense as they rolled over rival Montana Tech (1-3, 1-3) 45-21 to spoil the Orediggers homecoming festivities.
After a quick three and out on their opening possession,
Jon Jund and the Bulldog offense found a groove, carving up the Tech defense and scoring 38 straight points before Tech could finally find their way back into the endzone in the fourth quarter.Â
Jund was 22-35 for 381 yards and four touchdowns including three wide-open strikes to
Jamison Hermanson,
Colten McPhee and
Trey Mounts.Â
Tied at seven in the second quarter, Jund led the Bulldogs to three scoring drives, including a one play dive where he found Hermanson behind the secondary for a 50 yard cold-blooded connection. He closed the half with a 10 play 68 yard drive that culminated with a 28 dart to Mounts with just 10 seconds left to put the Bulldogs in a commanding 28-7 lead at the intermission.Â
The Bulldog ground attack was just as effective as
Reese Neville rushed for 102 yards on 17 carries and a score. McPhee added 67 yards and a score.
The Bulldog defense held Tech to just 87 yards on the ground. They had four tackles for loss, three sacks and six pass break-ups.
Braden Swank and
Joe Caicedo each had 10 total tackles,
Latrell McCutcheon had nine and two PBR's.
The Bulldogs will head east to face 3-1 Rocky Mountain College in Billings on Oct. 2. Kickoff from Herb Klindt Field is set for 1 p.m.
Notes:
