Bulldogs Fall 35-28 at No. 18 Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Second quarter turnovers proved costly in Montana Western's (1-1) 35-28 loss to No. 18 Eastern Oregon (2-0).

Late in the second quarter the Bulldogs were leading 14-7 and were in the middle of an impressive 14 play 88 yard drive that consumed nearly seven minutes off the clock. As they looked to take a commanding lead into the intermission, UMW fumbled the snap and EOU recovered the loose ball. In a flash, the Mountaineers drove the length of the field in less that two minutes to tie the game at 14 with 31 seconds left in the half. The Bulldog next offensive snap was intercepted and returned for a touchdown, giving Eastern Oregon the unexpected 21-14 lead heading into halftime. 

The Bulldogs went three and out to start the third quarter while EOU took their opening possession of the second half to build a 14 point lead. After trading punts, Reese Neville found the end zone for third time in the game to bring the Bulldogs to within seven at 21-28

Neville carried the ball 20 times for 79 yards anf three scores.

The Bulldog defense then got the stop they needed, forcing a EOU fumble on the the two yard line. However, The Bulldogs went three and out and EOU took the ensuing drive 59 yards to build the lead back to 14 at 35-21 with 6:39 left to play. Western then put together another 14 play drive capped of with a Trey Mounts 22 yard touchdown with 1:31 left to play. Mounts score was the first receiving Touchdown of the year for the Bulldogs. 

Western then forced a EOU punt and got the ball back on their own 10 yard line with 1:05 to play. UMW drove the ball to just past midfield before EOU sacked Jon Jund on the final play of the game to end the Bulldogs comeback bid. 

Jund finished the game 26 of 40 for 295 yards and a score. Jamison Hermanson had nine catches for 138 yards

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs out gained the Mountaineers 408-355 and held EOU to just 72 yards on the ground. 

Kia Quinn was 23-34 for 283 yards and four touchdowns. he also led the Mountaineers on the ground with 44 yards rushing.

The Bulldogs will travel to Dickinson, N.D. to face the 11th ranked Bluehawks of Dickinson State on Sept. 11. Kick-off from the Henry Biesiot Activiteis Center is set for 12 p.m.
