ATHERTON, Calif. – The Montana Western Men's Basketball Team (1-1) fell in the second game of the season to the Menlo College Oaks (2-0) by a score of 84-59.
How it Happened
The Bulldogs got off to a slow start and struggled to pick up the pace throughout the game, despite trailing by just one point at the half. The Bulldogs were all tied up at 25 after
Jamal Stephenson made a three-pointer with 4:52 left in the first half. The Bulldogs held on to a lead of 33-32 lead, before a last second shot by Oaks guard Harrison Bonner fell to give the Oaks the lead at 34-33 going into the second half. The Bulldogs shot 44.4 percent from the field in the half, despite shooting 60 percent from the three-point line.
The second half saw the Oaks pull away quickly with the Bulldogs struggling to find the hoop. The game was tied at 39 just three minutes into the second half after
Michael Haverfield hit the lone three-pointer of the half for the Bulldogs. The Oaks went on an 8-0 run that gave them their largest lead of the game. Despite Stephenson's steal that led to a transition score, the Bulldogs struggled to keep up with the Oaks for the remainder of the game. The Oaks would outscore the Bulldogs 37 to 18. The Bulldogs shot just 16.7 percent from the three-point line in the half.
Notables
- The Bulldogs struggled to put the ball in the hoop as they shot 43.1 percent in the field in comparison to the Oaks who shot 59.3 percent. They also struggled from the free-throw line, making just eight of 14 attempts.
- The Bulldogs also had 17 total turnovers in the game and were out rebounded 14-24.
- Michael Haverfield led the Bulldogs with 15 points, going 4-4 from the free-throw line, and picking up four rebounds.
- Stephenson totaled 13 points, two assists, and two steals.

The Bulldogs will be in Butte, Mont. this upcoming weekend for the Montana Tech Tip Off Classic. They will play Warner Pacific University (Ore.) on Friday Nov. 4 at 12PM MST. They will then take on Bacone College (Okla.) on Saturday Nov. 5 at 5PM MST.
