DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western Men's Basketball team is hosting the Western Classic tournament this weekend on Nov. 11 and 12 in the Straugh Gymnasium. The Bulldogs will tip off against Dickinson State at 7PM MST on Friday Nov. 11 and then again Saturday at 5pm MST against Eastern Oregon University.
The Bulldogs come into the tournament with an overall record of 2-2. They defeated Cal-Maritime in their season opener 69-60 and picked up a forfeit win against Bacone College (Okla.). The Bulldogs will not return home until the second Frontier Conference game on Dec. 3 against No. 23 preseason ranked Montana Tech.
In the first three games of the season, the Bulldogs have averaged 66.0 points per game and have had a shooting percentage of .416 from the field. From the arc, the team has shot an overall .359 and is averaging just over 26 rebounds per game.
Michael Haverfield has led the Bulldogs in scoring. He is averaging 13.3 points per game, shooting .500 from the field and .625 from the three-point line.
Montana Tech (2-0), Eastern Oregon (1-0), and Dickinson State (N.D.) (1-3) are also playing in the Western Classic. Montana Tech comes into the tournament 2-0, preseason ranked No. 23, and picked second to finish in the Frontier Conference. Eastern Oregon finished up 18-13 last season and comes into the weekend on a win over Whitman College. Dickinson State (N.D.) comes into the weekend 1-3 overall with their lone win over Bacone College (Okla.) 84-44.
