CHANDLER, Ariz. – The No. 18 ranked Bulldogs stretch their win streak to five games and an overall record of 10-2 after they defeated Benedictine University at Mesa today by a score of 74-50.
How it Happened
The first half was all Bulldogs as they posted a game-high 23 points in the first quarter behind
Payton Hagy's 2-2 performance from the three-point line. The Bulldogs continued to outscore the Redhawks to go up 41-17 at the half. UMW shot 50 percent from the field across the first two quarters, while adding 18 points from the three-point line.
The hot start for the Bulldogs wore off as the third quarter got going. Following a fast break layup from
Shainy Mack, the Bulldogs struggled through a four-minute stretch of misses from the field. A layup from
Jordan Sweeney broke the stretch with 2:03 left in the quarter. Holding a 53-30 lead over the Redhawks, the Bulldogs went on to outscore Benedictine 21-20 down the stretch to win the matchup 74-50.
Notables
- The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field despite another rough go with 20 turnovers in the game, just one less than their season high of 21.
- Montana Western turned the Redhawk's 19 turnovers into 20 points, with six on fast break opportunities.
- The Bulldog bench added 32 points in the game as the entire Bulldog roster put points on the board.
- Jordan Sweeney led the Bulldogs with 11 points, two assists, and a rebound.
- Joelnell Momberg added 10 points with two rebounds and three assists.
Up Next
The Bulldogs finish out the trip 10-2 and will prepare for the Green and Gold Classic next week. They will first take on Dickinson State (N.D.) on Dec. 29 at 1:30pm MST in Billings, Mont. The last time the two teams faced, the Bulldogs won 83-58 on Nov. 5.
