Bulldog Men Come Up Short After Late Surge from Idaho State in Exhibition Game

POCATELLO, Idaho. – The Montana Western Bulldog Men's Basketball team fell 53-61 tonight in an exhibition game against NCAA Division I opponent Idaho State University.

How it Happened
The Bulldogs kicked off tonight's exhibition matchup by going on a 14-0 run behind a flurry of threes that got the Bulldog's offense running. Idaho State missed the first six shots they took in the matchup, giving the Bulldogs the perfect opportunity to gain a sizable lead. Up nine points on the Bengals with 10 minutes to go in the first half, Jacksen Burckley hit a three to give the Bulldogs an 11-point lead at 21-10. Scoreless for more than three minutes, the Bulldogs broke the ice with a layup from Brenton Woods. Despite going cold for much of the first half, the Bengals answered by going on a 9-0 run to cut the Bulldogs lead down to just two points at 23-21 with just over two minutes to play in the half. Montana Western broke the scoring run after Woods drained a three pointer from the top of the arc which helped the Bulldogs retain the lead heading into halftime at 26-22. The Bulldogs were closely matched with the Bengals, shooting 36 percent from the field in comparison to the Bengals' 33.3 percent.

Ky Kouba came out strong for the Bulldogs at the start of the second half as he scored the first ten points for UMW. Up 36-29 in the first five minutes of the second half, ISU took control of the momentum and went on a 7-0 scoring run on two minutes. Jaden Graham broke up the run on a big layup drive that brought the score to 41-38. Idaho State continued to hang on to the momentum as they tied the game up at 43 with nine minutes left in the game. The Bengals pressed forward behind their 12-2 scoring run that gave Idaho State a seven-point lead at 50-43. Tanner Haverfield snapped the Idaho State run after he hit a three-pointer that brought the score to 52-46. With 1:50 left in the game, Jok Jok slammed it down to bring the Bulldogs back within seven points. Despite the effort, the Bengals finished the game on top over the Bulldogs 61-53.
