Bulldogs Lose Two in Arizona at Labor Day Festival

Kaylee Fritz led with 20 assists and 11 digs against Park-Gilbert and added another 26 assists and 10 digs against ACU.

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Montana Western volleyball team lost a back to back game slate tonight to (RV) Park University-Gilbert (6-4) and Arizona Christian University (3-3) at the Labor Day Festival in Arizona.
 
How It Happened
Montana Western (0-6) dropped sets, 24-26, 13-25, and 25-27 to (RV) Park University-Gilbert (6-4).
The Bulldogs started out the first set strong, battling back and forth throughout the set. Three straight kills by Jazi Smith helped the Bulldogs to take a four-point lead on the Buccaneers at 22-18. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 24-22, but the Buccaneers seized momentum and battled back to top the Bulldogs 24-26. The Bulldogs kept it close in set two at 6-7 before a 12-3 run helped lead the Buccaneers to run away with the set and win 13-25. The Bulldogs bounced back in set three from a 18-22 deficit after a kill from Morgan Stenger tied the game at 24. Park-Gilbert took the last two points of the game, winning the set 27-25.

Montana Western (0-7) falls to Arizona Christian University 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, and 21-25.
The Bulldogs came out on fire in the first set against Arizona Christian winning it 25-17. The Firestorm was then able to gain momentum in set two that helped them take an early lead of 7-11. A kill and an ace from KayLee Kopp helped spark a Bulldog run that tied the game at 15. The Bulldogs were able to tie the game at 22 after back to back kills from Smith and Stenger. Despite the late Bulldog rally, the Firestorm strung together three straight kills to take the set 22-25. The Bulldogs came back out in set three and took a lead of 15-10 on the Firestorm. A 7-1 scoring rally by ACU flipped the score to 16-17. The Firestorm continued to carry the momentum to win the set 22-25. ACU led the Bulldogs in the fourth set 14-18 when the Bulldogs closed the gap to 17-18 behind a serving run from Ramyia Wendt. ACU ultimately outlasted the Bulldogs to win the final set 21-25.
