No. 12 Bulldogs Hand Rocky Mountain College First Frontier Conference Loss

DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western Women's Basketball team won today's top-25 matchup against the No. 20 ranked Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears 83-58. The Bulldogs are now 4-1 in conference play and 16-2 overall this season.

"We got off to a great start for the first time in a long time. I was really happy with our bigs tonight. They were super efficient offensively and banged with their bigs for 40 minutes. We will enjoy this one tonight and get back to work tomorrow." Head Coach Lindsay Woolley stated.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs got off to a fiery start behind junior guard Shainy Mack's perfect first quarter. Mack drained two three-pointers and went a perfect three for three from the field across the eight-minute stretch. With 5:58 left in the half, Jordan Sweeney hit a jump shot from mid-range to give the Bulldogs a 13-point lead over Rocky Mountain. The Bulldog defense held the Battlin' Bears scoreless across seven possessions before Rocky's Dominique Stephens made a jump shot to break the streak. The Bulldogs continued to hold all of the momentum heading into the half, outscoring the Battlin' Bears 9-2 in the remaining four and a half minutes. In the first half alone, three Bulldogs were in double digit scoring numbers: Mack, Sweeney, and Mesa King.

Rocky was the first to strike coming back from the half, but a three-pointer from the top of the arc and a pair of free throws from Brynley Fitzgerald got the Bulldogs out to a 20-point lead. Despite the hot start, the two teams hit a lull in action throughout the third quarter, with the Bulldogs outscoring Rocky 12-9. UMW went on a 7-1 scoring run at the start of the fourth that stretched the Bulldog lead to 25 with six minutes left to play. Despite putting forth their best quarter of the day, Rocky was unable to hang with the Bulldogs' 27-point quarter.

"Our mindset was to just play our game, to defend for four quarters, and to just finish the game and we never let up." Freshman Emily Cooley said after the win.
