No. 12 Bulldogs Down Argos in Close Battle

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Montana Western Women's Basketball team defeated the University of Providence this afternoon following a close 84-74 battle. The Bulldogs move to 18-3 overall on the season and 6-2 in Frontier Conference play.

"It was a gritty second half. We had a heck of a time slowing them down until we were able to put together a few stops in the fourth quarter. I was really proud of our ability to bounce back after a tough one on Thursday." Head Coach Lindsay Woolley stated after the win.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs got out to a hot start, grabbing as much as a 10-point lead in the first quarter behind three quick steals. UMW worked to score 24 points across the first, while taking advantage of five Argo turnovers and turning them into seven Bulldog points.

Out front 24-18, Mesa King utilized a great look and hit a jump shot right from the get go, but the Argos answered down the stretch as they chipped away at the Bulldog lead. The Argos continued to push behind an 8-0 scoring run to tie the game up with 3:50 to go.

UMW closed the half up one point at 41-40 following a three-pointer from Joelnell Momberg and a big layup from Isabella Lund. Providence held the Bulldogs to 17 points in the second quarter, outscoring UMW 22-17.

Momberg drained her third three-pointer of the game with 8:07 on the clock. Despite hitting a huge shot, the Argos responded right away with a layup to knot it back up at 46.

Brynley Fitzgerald led the way for the Bulldogs across the fourth, scoring 11 points as the Bulldogs were able to extend their lead back to ten and take the upper hand over the Argos 84-74.
