Three Bulldogs in Double Digits in Top 25 Win over Battlin’ Bears

BILLINGS, Mont. — The Bulldog Women's Basketball team won their third straight matchup in a row with today's 83-73 victory over the No. 22 ranked Rocky Mountain. The Bulldogs are now 20-3 on the season and 8-2 in conference play.

How It Happened
Knotted up at 19 early in the game, Brynley Fitzgerald drained a three-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 22-19 lead heading into the second quarter.

Taking as much as a seven-point lead over the Battlin' Bears with 6:36 left in the half, Rocky closed the gap back within one. Montana Western then extended their lead to four at the half behind a pair of free throws from Joelnell Momberg.

With Montana Western leading 43-39 at the start of the second half, the two teams continued to battle it out. Montana Western led Rocky Mountain in scoring across the quarter 18-15 and led 61-54 at the end of the quarter.

The Bulldogs would begin the fourth quarter on a 16-4 run in the first four minutes. Rocky Mountain followed by forcing five Bulldog turnovers in the last five minutes of the game. The Bulldogs were able to withstand the final push and hang onto the lead to win 83-73.

"Really proud of our effort tonight against a good team. I thought our urgency was much better in the second half rotating to shooters and getting stops. Always tough to get a win in the Frontier so we will enjoy this and get back to work on Monday!" Senior forward Brynley Fitzgerald said after the win.

  • Today's win was the Bulldog's seventh game and fifth win against a ranked or receiving votes opponent this season.
  • UMW flipped the script from Thursday night's matchup. They shot 50.9 percent from the field and a solid 47.6 percent from the arc.
  • The Rocky Mountain bench outscored the Bulldogs 24-11 in the matchup.
  • Brynley Fitzgerald led the Bulldogs with 30 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
  • Jordan Sweeney added 18 points, three assists, and two steals.
  • Mesa King had 10 points, six boards, and two steals.
