DILLON, Mont. — The Bulldog Men's Basketball team closed out the regular season with a 77-73 loss to the Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears.
Montana Western holds a record of 11-17 overall and 6-9 in Frontier Conference play heading into the Frontier Conference Tournament.
How It Happened
Ky Kouba scored the first points for the Bulldogs after he hit a quick three just a minute into the game. The Bulldogs were then held scoreless for five and a half minutes as Rocky wasted no time going on a 15-0 scoring run.
Jok Jok broke the run by hitting a three and
Jamal Stephenson added two free throws to cut the RMC lead down to seven with 11:57 left in the half.
Down 28-15 with four minutes to go, the Bulldogs were able to capitalize on fouls as
Colter Miller and Stephenson went on to shoot 8-8 from the charity stripe. Jok added a layup to cut the Rocky lead to just three at 28-25 heading into the break.
The Bulldogs carried their momentum over into the second half and took their first lead since the first Bulldogs points of the game at 30-28 behind a three from Miller
.
Montana Western extended their lead to eight following a three from Jok and a free throw from Stephenson. Rocky stuck in with the Bulldogs, going on their own 9-2 run to cut the lead back down to one with 12:03 left in the game.
Rocky swung the score back in their favor at 54-52 following a three from sophomore guard Jesse Owens. Despite cutting the Rocky lead down twice to just one point in the final minute, the Bulldogs were unable to come out on top and lost 77-73.
Notables
- The Bulldogs were outshot 37.5 to 51.1 percent from the field. Rocky Mountain also was also 45.5 percent from the arc, compared to the Bulldog's 27.8 percent.
- The Bulldogs were perfect from the charity stripe in the first half, going 10-10 from the line.
- Montana Western's bench put up 36 points in the matchup, compared to just one point from the Battlin' Bears' bench.
- Four Bulldogs were in double digits on senior day, with three being the Bulldog seniors. Jamal Stephenson led with 19 points and three rebounds.
- Jok Jok totaled 15 points, two rebounds and three assists.
- Tanner Haverfield and Colter Miller each had 12 points. Haverfield added four rebounds and Miller totaled five. They also combined for five assists.

The Bulldog Men will be traveling to compete in the Frontier Conference Tournament held in Great Falls, Mont. at the Four Seasons Arena. Seeding and game times will be announced in the coming days.
