Argos Hand Bulldogs Second Conference Loss

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Montana Western men's basketball team (8-8, 1-2) fell this afternoon to the University of Providence Argos (8-8, 1-2) by a final score of 94-83.

Quincy Taylor had a season-high scoring night with 20 points, going a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line and hitting 6-12 from the field.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs got out to a promising start, taking an early 13-7 lead over the Argos in the first five minutes of the contest.

Argos' guard Davien Harris-Williams got hot and hit back-to-back threes as UP took their first lead over the Bulldogs at 15-13 prior to a media timeout.

Despite trailing five, Abi Adedo found some momentum behind eight points with a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.

With four minutes remaining in the half and down 10, the Bulldogs pieced together 13-10 run that brought UMW back within five at the break.

Adedo, who put up 16 points in the first half, was the first to find the hoop at the start of the second half.

Though a promising start, the Argos raced out to an 11-point lead behind a 12-4 run that was capped by a dunk from Jaylin Reed.

Jalyn Stepney banged a three-pointer with 15:24 that brought the Bulldogs back to life. Taylor and Christian Pitcher each followed up with a field goal, cutting the Argo lead back to nine.

Despite the quick run, the Argos continued to keep the edge over Montana Western and raced out to an 18-point lead down the stretch.

Montana Western refused to give up and found themselves knocking at the door at 86-78 as Taylor paired with Adedo for five points with 2:23 remaining to play.

Providence capped the game hitting 4-6 shots from the free throw line and added a pair of field goals to end regulation and win 94-83.

  • The Bulldogs totaled just six turnovers in tonight's game with four coming from the second half.
  • Montana Western was outshot in tonight's game 53.8 to 43.3. In contrast, UMW went 20-25 from the free throw line as the Argos hit just 17-26.
  • Five Bulldogs hit double-digits in the game, the first occurrence this season.
  • Adedo led the Bulldogs with 24 points. He also added five rebounds.
  • Taylor's 20-point performance was a season-high. He also added six rebounds and three assists.
