Cross Country Announces 2024 Signing Class

DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western men's and women's cross country teams have welcomed eight signees in its 2024-25 signing class, the program announced Tuesday morning.
 
"I am excited about our incoming women. It is great to have a full team this year. They are a great group of women to build the program around and I think they have the potential to do well this season and continue to progress during their time at Western." Head Coach Taylor Grove said. "I am also very excited for our incoming freshman men. They fit well with our returners, are excited training and will be able to contribute to the team throughout the season."
 
Olivia Canney | Helena, Mont. / Capital HS
Canney joins the Bulldogs as a 2024 graduate of Capital High School in Helena, Mont. She earned academic All-State honors, honor roll, and graduated cum laude while also competing in track and field, soccer, and basketball. Canny also spent six years running for the Speed Goat club. Canny is the daughter of Lucas and Janie Canney and plans to major in biology while at Montana Western.
 
Jodee Cree Medicine | Heart Butte, Mont. / Heart Butte HS
Medicine is a 2024 graduate of Heart Butte High School in Heart Butte, Mont. She competed for the Warriors for four seasons and also competed in basketball and volleyball where she earned MVP honors and all-conference selections. She is the daughter of Carl Cree Medicine and Amanda Aimsback.
 
Ruby Smith | Laurel, Mont. / Laurel HS
Smith is a 2024 graduate of Laurel High School in Laurel, Mont. She was a member of both a divisional and state championship squad for the Locomotives during her time at Laurel. She also earned honor roll recognition. Smith is the daughter of Gary Smith and Christine May and plans to major in English at Montana Western.
 
Destiny Vogl | Helena, Mont. / Capital HS
Vogl joins the Bulldogs as a 2024 graduate of Capital High School in Helena, Mont. She earned cross country athlete of the year in 2022 and spent two seasons on varsity for Capital. Vogl also competed in tennis and track and field. She is the daughter of Felicha Vogl and plans to pursue a degree in sociology at Montana Western.
 
Kylee Wyatt | Omak, Wash. / Omak HS
Wyatt joins the Bulldogs as a 2024 graduate of Omak High School in Omak, Wash. She was a sportsmanship award winner for two years in a row while also shaving her 5k cross country time from 31:50 to 23:18 her senior season. She earned all-league honors for multiple seasons and was named the hero award winner at her school. Wyatt also participated in band while at Omak where she was a two-year varsity letter winner and served as both the band council vice president and president. She is the daughter of Jonathon Wyatt and Jeannie Logg and plans to major in mathematics while at Montana Western.
 
Kreg Butler | Idaho Falls, Idaho / Hillcrest HS / College of Eastern Idaho
Butler joins the Bulldogs as a transfer from the College of Eastern Idaho and a 2021 graduate of Hillcrest High School. During his career at Hillcrest, Butler also competed in football while competing in cross country and track and field. Butler is the son of David and Jessica Butler and plans to continue to pursue his degree in environmental sustainability.  
 
Noah Rovente | Lopez Island, Wash. / Friday Harbor HS
Rovente is a 2024 graduate of Friday Harbor High School in Lopez Island, Wash. While at Friday Harbor, Rovete competed in both track and field and cross country. He qualified for both the state cross country and track and field championships while also earning MVP honors in track and field. He was named an outstanding scholastic award winner and earned the leadership and commitment award at Friday Harbor. Rovente is the son of Anthony and Crystal Rovente and plans to pursue a degree in business while at Montana Western.
 
Bridger Wheeler | Cheyenne, Wyo. / Cheyenne Central HS
Wheeler joins the Bulldogs as a 2024 graduate of Cheyenne Central High School in Cheyenne, Wyo. He placed second in both 2023 and 2024 indoor track and cross country and finished on the podium in 2023 and 2024 in outdoor track and field for his high school. In addition, Wheeler earned an academic letter for three years while being named an outstanding graduate of Laramie County. Wheeler is the son of Greg and Amy Wheeler and plans to major in ecology at Montana Western.
