UMW Cross Country Heads to Yellowjackets/ Battlin’ Bears Open

DILLON, Mont. – The UMW men's and women's cross-country teams travel to Billings, Mont., Friday to compete in the Yellowjackets/ Battlin' Bears Open, hosted by Rocky Mountain and MSU-Billings.

LAST TIME OUT
The Western men's team finished fifth and the women finished eighth at the Bengal Invitational Oct. 3. Brant Heiner and Olivia Heiner were the top Bulldog finishers in the meet.
 
Brant Heiner clocked a 27:29.1 to finish 37th out of 72 competitors in the men's 8k. Olivia Heiner ran a 20:46.4 to take 49th out of 61 runners in the women's 5k.
 
DYNAMIC DUO
Brant Heiner and Harrison Silverio have been the top two men's runners for Western this season. Brant Heiner has been the top men's finisher twice and took second once while Silverio has taken the top spot once and finished second twice.
 
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
Olivia Heiner has been the top women's runner for UMW in each race this season. She has placed in the top 50 at all three meets.
 
HITTING THEIR STRIDE
Brant Heiner, Cael Thilmony, and Tristan Von Bargen each earned season-bests in the 8k at the Bengal Invitational. Brant Heiner ran to a 37th-place finish with a 27:29.1, Thilmony clocked a 29:45.2 to finish 55th, and Von Bargen placed 62nd with a 30:44.1
 
ON YOUR MARK… SET…
Competing on the women's side for Montana Western are Olivia Heiner, Justene Santi, Kylee Wyatt, and Ashley Murnion.
 
For the men's team, Brant Heiner, Harrison Silverio, Brody Henry, Tristan Von Bargen, Wyatt Yeager, Cael Thilmony, Mason Lynch, Bridger Wheeler, and Noah Rovente will take the course.
 
MEET THE COMPETITION
The field consists of 16 teams, including Bismarck State, Black Hills State, Carroll, Central Wyoming College, Chadron State, Dawson CC, Dickinson State, Montana Tech, MSU-Billings, MSU-Northern, Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish, Providence, Rocky Mountain, South Dakota Mines, Williston State College, and Montana Western.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs will race in one more regular-season meet before the conference championships, traveling to Ashland, Neb., to take part in the Blazing Tiger Invite Oct. 25. The 2025 Frontier Conference Championships will take place Nov. 7 in Billings, Mont.
