Bulldog WBB Suffers 68-54 Setback at #25 Montana Tech

BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball program (4-3, 2-1 FC) was clipped by #25 Montana Tech (6-1, 2-1 FC) 68-54 Friday evening.
 
STAT BREAKDOWN
The Bulldogs shot 31.1 percent (19-61) from the field, 34.6 percent (9-26) from three, and 70.0 percent (7-10) from the foul line in the game.
 
They registered 37 rebounds, 13 assists, eight blocks, and nine steals.
 
Western earned 20 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, four second-chance points, four fast-break points, and 15 bench points.
 
NOTABLES
Isabella Lund dropped a career-high 24 points.
 
Ava Bellach earned a career-high three blocks.
 
UMW swatted a season-best eight blocks as a team.
 
LEADERBOARD
Lund led the game in scoring while. Sayler was also in double digits with 12 points, all coming from beyond the arc.
 
Keke Davis pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while Kyle Pancost handed out a game-high tying three assists.
 
Ava Bellach tied for the game-lead with three blocks. Sayler, Davis, Lund, and Gio Horner each earned two steals
 
GAME SUMMARY
It was a defensive battle to start the contest, with the hosts holding a slight 15-9 lead going into the second period. The Orediggers stretched their lead to nine, 37-28, by the halftime whistle.
 
Lund paced the team with eight points while Davis and Sayler pulled down four rebounds apiece. Pancost led Western with two assists.
 
The Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent (10-30) from the floor, 46.7 percent (7 -15) from distance, and 25.0 percent (1-4) from the foul line in the first half. They rallied 17 rebounds, seven assists, six blocks, and five steals.  
 
Montana Tech maintained its nine-point lead through the third, leading 49-40 at the end of the period.
 
Despite a strong defensive fourth by the Bulldogs, they couldn't get closer than seven, and the Orediggers took the 14-point win.
 
THE OPPOSITION
Montana Tech shot 42.2 percent (27-64) from the field, 33.3 percent (7-21) from deep, and 50.0 percent (7-14) from the charity stripe. The Orediggers tallied 47 rebounds, 16 assists, eight blocks, and 11 steals. Hallie Neibauer posted a team-best 20 points, followed by Hadley Humphreys (18) and Liv Wangerin (11). Wangerin led the game in rebounds (11) and tied for the game high in blocks with three. Four players earned three assists apiece and three snagged three steals each.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs return to Straugh Gymnasium to host #16 Carroll (12/5) and #15 Rocky Mountain (12/6).
