DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball program (4-4, 2-2 FC) lost a nail biter to #16 Carroll (5-3, 3-1 FC) Friday evening.
The Bulldogs showcased grit and determination to fight back from eight down in the second quarter and keep themselves in the game.
STAT BREAKDOWN
UMW shot 47.8 percent (22-46) from the field, 9.1 percent (1-11) from three, and 61.1 percent (11-18) from the foul line in the contest.
The Red and Black recorded 34 rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals.
Western posted a whopping 40 points in the paint, 11 points off turnovers, two second-chance points, and 11 bench points.
LEADERBOARD
Isabella Lund led the team with 20 points, followed by
Gio Horner (13) and
Keke Davis (12).
Baylee Sayler pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.
Keke Davis led the Bulldogs in both assists (three) and steals (two).
NOTABLES
Three Bulldogs scored in double figures.
Lund shot a blistering 88.9 percent (8-9) from the floor for her second-straight 20-point game.
Davis matched her season high in points, rebounds, and assists.
GAME SUMMARY
The two sides were neck-and-neck through much of the opening quarter, with the Bulldogs leading by as many as five before a late three gave the Fighting Saints the one-point, 18-17, lead at the end of the period.
The visitors held onto their lead, stretching it to eight more than once in the second frame, and were up 38-31 at the half.
The Bulldogs shot 54.2 percent (13-24) from the field and 55.5 percent (5-9) from the line in the first half.
Western clawed its way back into the contest in the third, outscoring Carroll 17-8 in the period to take a two-point lead, 48-46, into the final 10 minutes.
The fourth was a defensive battle, and UMW was down three in the dwindling seconds. Horner got the final shot off in time, but it took an unlucky bounce and didn't fall.
THE OPPOSITION
Carroll shot 35.7 percent (20-56) from the floor, 29.2 percent (7-24) from three, and 92.3 percent (12-13) from the foul line in the contest. The Saints tallied 29 rebounds, 10 assists, 11 steals, and one block. Kenzie Allen led all players in both points (21) and steals (five). Willa Albrecht grabbed a game-high nine boards. Avery Craft earned a game-best four assists and Meagan Karstetter swatted the lone block of the game.

The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow when they host #15 Rocky Mountain. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. MT.
