DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball team (7-17) saw its comeback fall short against the Montana State University-Northern Skylights (12-13), falling 74-66 this evening.
Isabella Lund led Western in scoring with a career-high 20 points.
How It Happened:
Keke Davis opened the scoring for the Bulldogs on their first possession of the game. The Skylights then held Western scoreless for the next 5:47, going on a 13-0 run to close the quarter with a 19-7 lead.
The second quarter was highlighted by Maddy Moy's defensive effort, as she recorded three steals and grabbed a defensive rebound. Payton Hagy led the Bulldogs in scoring during the quarter, contributing five points.
Trinidie Nichols knocked down two three-pointers, and Lund added six points to cut the deficit to nine. However, the Skylights' hot shooting and 12 points in the paint extended their lead to 59-44 at the end of the third quarter.
The Bulldogs opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run while holding the Skylights scoreless for nearly three minutes, mounting a comeback. Behind four three-pointers from Hagy, Western cut the deficit to four with less than a minute to play. However, a late Skylights offensive rebound ultimately sealed the game, and the Bulldogs' comeback fell short.
