Bulldog Volleyball Vanquishes the Vikings in Four Sets Saturday

DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western volleyball team (10-11, 9-5 FC) won its third match of the week and fifth-straight in a four-set victory over Valley City State (6-14, 4-9 FC) Saturday afternoon.

The five-game win streak is the longest since 2024 when the Bulldogs went on a seven-game streak to kick off Frontier action.

"I was really proud of how we finished the week with three wins," head coach Katie Lovett said. "This conference is always tough but three-game weeks are even tougher. Shoutout to a bunch of athletes who stepped up in lots of different moments this week."

 MATCH SUMMARY
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, but the Bulldogs fought their way back into the mix. They scored the final five points of the set to win 25-23 and go up 1-0 in the match.

The second frame began with a 7-0 run from Western, thanks in part to four aces from Jayda Ward. The visitors got as close as three points on two occasions, but UMW's firepower proved too much and the Bulldogs went up 2-0 with a 25-18 set two victory.

The third period was back-and-forth, featuring nine ties before Valley City pulled one back with a 28-26 extra-point win.

Western wasn't fazed, however, and quickly built a 9-4 lead early in the final set. The Bulldogs led by as many as nine in the frame, but VCSU would not go quietly. The Vikings held off three-straight match points before UMW final sealed the win, 25-20.
